I was stationed at the naval base in64/65. This clip was interesting to me because I really wasn’t taught anything about the history of our military in Trinidad. The naval base was all that I knew. You had to travel through the base to get to the Trinidad Coast Guard station and the Trinidad military base. There was also a country club with golf course. I remember a number of our service men married some of the pretty girls from Trinidad 😊 I still tell stories about the huge anaconda that was stretched out across a road back in the jungle. I was checking on the ammo bunkers and it was so overgrown and dense with vegetation that it was scary . I thought a tree had fallen across the road and got out to see if I could move it out of the way when I realized it was moving. I was just about to grab it and pulled my hands back and realized that it was a huge snake. I thought about shooting it since I was armed with a 45 but changed my mind and backed my patrol truck out of the jungle 😂 I remember the howler monkeys in the jungle around the tracking station where I pulled guard duty when I wasn’t driving patrol. I also remember iguanas that stood three feet tall when running. Emerald green with red eyes. I love those old memories of Trinidad. I’m glad I got stationed there. I was there once for liberty in 62 when you got your independence and remember how excited everyone was 🎉 I celebrated two carnivals while I was stationed there. I remember Sparrow and Lord Kitch and play their music on utube. I’m 82 and am thankful for today’s technology that I can watch and listen to Trinidad 🇹🇹

Thank you for that once again! This is a sad chapter in Trinidad in history. But as a person of Trinidadian ancestry now living in Vancouver British Columbia I’m actually proud of the way the country has handled it’s gang problems.
